Äldretandvård

ACT eftersträvar effektiv integrering av oral hälsa och funktion som en del av äldre personers hälsoprofil. Kunskapsöverföring och implementering är därför nyckelfaktorer i ACT:s aktiviteter. Detta inkluderar vetenskaplig kunskap och förståelse för kritiska faktorer som påverkar den orala hälsan hos äldre.

ACT ska förmedla kunskap och information om oral hälsa hos äldre och strävar efter att erkännas som nationellt centrum.

Programförklaring

Forskningen vid ACT handlar om den komplexa relationen mellan oral och allmän hälsa samt livskvalitet. Bakgrunden till det är att nedsatt förmåga att äta och svälja påverkar nutrition och bidrar till försämrad livskvalitet, kognitiv svikt och skörhet. Systemsjukdomar kan öka risken för oral sjukdom och vice versa. Mångsjuklighet och polyfarmaci kan orsaka orala och generella komplikationer. Vidare är tandvård och oral omvårdnad känsliga och utmanande uppgifter avseende etiska aspekter, det vill säga med hänsyn till integritet och att inte vålla skada.

Forskningen vid ACT involverar den komplexa relationen mellan oral och allmän hälsa och funktion hos äldre, med syfte att lösa uppkomna hälsoproblem med en multidisciplinär approach

Forskningen vid ACT är organiserad i ”core groups”, där medlemmarna samverkar kring forskningsprojekt och forskningsområden. ACT har också etablerat samarbeten med flera forskare och forskargrupper vid Karolinska Institutet, i första hand vid Institutionen för neurobiologi, vårdvetenskap och samhälle och Institutionen för medicin, Solna.
